Are you looking for a fun and rewarding part time job helping kids have fun and develop skills that will help them thrive in life? If so, this job will be a great fit! We are looking for someone to fill this role for the 2026-2027 school year.
We are seeking an engaging and reliable after school activities aide/life skills teacher to lead the "Power Hour" portion of our program, and then help the other activity leaders facilitate their planned activities for the 2026-2027 school year.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working and playing with children, has a passion teaching kids about mindset, social-emotional skills, and more (see below).
Whether you're a current college student, a retired caretaker, a classroom teacher, or a grandparent — if you feel like you can turn life skills into fun and engaging activities kids love, we want to hear from you!
We're looking for someone who can get down on a kid's level, meet them where they are, and help them grow and develop in positive ways. This is not a lecture-style role. The best sessions look more like guided exploration and collaboration than a classroom lesson — kids asking questions, trying things out, and figuring it out together.
The after school program goes from 2:15 - 4:30. We need you from 2:00pm - 5:00pm.
Each day you will arrive at 2:00pm at the Trailside gym (where the after school program takes place) and prepare your activity setup for the program that begins at 2:15 (If you need to come earlier we can arrange that).
You will be the leader of a group up to 15 kids. The first hour you will be in charge of setting up the unwind activity stations, taking attendance, administering the after school snack, playing with the kids, and leading a short life skills activity/workshop. After your workshop, the kids will go to their Activity club which starts at 3:15; during which you will act as co-activity leader and run the activity that has been prepared and directed by the club activity leader.
If there are more than 15 kids registered for the session, they will be split in to two groups. You will be over one group, and your activity leader will be over the other group. You will be responsible to lead the activities that have been planned by the club activity leader.
At the end of the session you will help ensure that the kids have a ride home or are accounted for, then help with any cleanup in the gym as needed. With any time left, staff will do a recap and collaborate as needed.
During the week, you will choose a day and time that works for you to prepare your activities and materials for the following week. We will compensate you for 2-3 hours of prep time per week and purchase materials requested.
Many parents in Vineyard are deeply in need of a quality after school program at Trailside and/or eager for opportunities for their kids to make friends, move more, create and learn. You will play a major part in starting this newly inaugurated program and will directly impacting the lives of kids through your talents, passion, and care.
Kids wants to be seen, supported, and have fun! Adults want their kids to thrive, and you get to help them do both! Come work with a group of other inspiring adults full of uplifting energy, all striving to create something meaningful together for these kids and their families. We know that how kids end the school day, is the energy they bring home. Your impact here will have far reaching effects on families.
Please reach us at lilcolt@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.
No, we are primarily looking for competency in planning and implementing the themed activities and ability to work with kids in a positive and engaging way. If you feel you can do this, we want to hear from you! We are open to hiring current college students to retirees and all the in between!
We are committed to creating a safe, positive, and respectful environment for both students and activity leaders. While we understand that children can be energetic, talkative, and occasionally need redirection, there are clear behavioral boundaries that must be upheld.
We do not tolerate behaviors such as name-calling, bullying, physical aggression, destruction of property, persistent negativity, or intentional disruption of activities. As a staff will address minor issues with guidance and redirection; however, ongoing or serious behavior concerns will not be permitted to continue.
If a child is unable to meet the behavioral expectations despite support and intervention, we will work with families to determine whether the program is the right fit. Our priority is maintaining a safe and welcoming space where all participants and leaders can thrive.
This role will be for the 2026-2027 school year. We will follow the Alpine school calendar and take the same days off that the school district has specified. We are subject to Trailside administration canceling a session when they need the gym space. It should not happen often, but if for example the staff is having a training session and needs the gym, the school principal may ask that we cancel the program for that day. Please note we will not be paying our activity leads for any days that are canceled or sick leave as this is an hourly position.
We get that life happens! To avoid program interruption, we ask that all our activity leads prepare a couple of backup activities that another leader could easily step in and implement if you cannot make your session. If you are sick or need the day off, we will ask that you coordinate with the other activity leads or aides to see who can cover your session. If there are no others that can step in, the director will be prepared to step in when needed. We are depending on you to show up, so if you are unsure if you will be able to commit or be punctual, please do not apply.
Please note: Other activity leads or aides may reach out to you to cover their activity in the event that they are sick. We appreciate the versatility and flexibility in our staff when needed.
